SL Jones – “Big Bank (No Ones)

On September 4thSL Jones will release his new mixtape, Way Of Life No Hobby. Following in a string of recent collaborative projects – SL previously worked with M16 for this year’s Trapper’s Delight and DJ Burn One for last year’s Paraphernalia – Way Of Life No Hobby is produced entirely by Metro Boomin, whose other recent work includes producing the singles “Karate Chop” and “Honest” for Future, in addition to work with Gucci Mane, Wiz Khalifa, Trinidad Jame$, and others. The tape will be hosted by Don Cannon, a reunion of sorts for the rapper and DJ, with the two having first worked together on Jones’ 2011 offering, The Number 23.

Today, Complex premieres the lead single from Way Of Life No Hobby, “Big Bank (No Ones).” “This song really set the tone for the entire project,” says Jones, noting the aggressive track and slick yet melodic flow. The song’s hook also drew inspiration from the moment: “We were at the studio, Metro making the beat on the spot, and someone asked my engineer, Seth Firkins, if he has change for $20. He responded, $20s are change!’ It sounded hella flagrant, but it was true – nobody in the session had less than a $20 bill.”

Following the release of Way Of Life No Hobby, SL Jones will head to Florida, playing shows in Tampa, Orlando, Miami, and Tallahassee alongside Will Brennan andAustin Millz. Details and flyer below.

Upcoming Tour Dates:

9/11 – Tampa, FL – The Orpheum
9/12 – Orlando, FL – Backbooth Lounge

The Background:

With the Rock on his back and a Razorbacks fitted cocked just so on his dome, Little Rock, Arkansas, rapper  first hit the scene as part of Killer Mike‘s Grind Time Rap Gang, releasing his now-classic C.O.L.O.R.S. (Bangin’ On Wax) mixtape. It wasn’t long after that SL knew he had to strike out on his own, and beginning in 2011 he did just that, starting with the release of The Number 23, hosted by Don Cannon. Closing out 2011, SL Jones released his Flight Risk mixtape, and together, the two mixtapes garnered strong reviews from XXL Magazine and Atlanta’s leading alternative weekly, Creative Loafing, while earning the young gunner accolades from FADER, Complex, The Source, HipHopDX, The Smoking Section, Nah Right, Dirty Glove Bastard, and more, including a sit down with MTV News’ Mixtape Daily and a nationally televised “On Deck” feature with MTV2’s Sucker Free. In 2012, SL Jones released Paraphernalia, a collaborative effort with producer DJ Burn One that included features from Freddie Gibbs, Rittz, and more. To start 2013, SL Jones released an EP, Trapper’s Delight, produced by M16 and hosted by Hoodrich/Grand Hustle’s DJ MLK, , and now, on September 4th, SL will release a new mixtape, Way Of Life No Hobby, produced by Metro Boomin and hosted by Don Cannon, exclusively via LiveMixtapes.
