Austin, Texas’ League of Extraordinary Gz know what it’s like to be too broke to fill the tank. Premiering today on Potholes In My Blog, the track “4$ Blues” was inspired by skyrocketing gas prices and trying to get by on fumes. As part of the Dred Skott 4 President mixtape back in 2008, the track was originally done over Emily King‘s “Walk In My Shoes.” Now, the song has been remade over an original beat by the League’s Reggie Coby and placed onto the upcoming album #LeagueShit.
The verse delivered by the late leader of the League, Octavis “Esbe Da 6th Street Bully” Berry, was kept on the new version of the track. League member Lowkey says The Bully’s verse captures the mood of the song best, with lyrics like “Got an ounce of bake but my low fuel light came on at 8 / And it’s 8:16 now I’m basically pushing fumes / And Habib’s is on the other side of town (Oooh).” Reggie says the most enjoyable part of recording the track were the skits. “Me and Tay (The Bully) always had fun in the studio. We were always trying to put bits of comedy into our music, and this track is a perfect example of that.” #LeagueShit is due out October 15th.
