West coast emcee Roach Gigz has been dropping video after video in promotion of his latest mixtape Roachy Balboa III, which was named Stereogum‘s Mixtape of the Week and was also reviewed by Pitchfork. Directed by Roach’s longtime collaborator Aris Jerome, the video for the track “Boss’d Up,” which was produced by Nick Catchdubs and Proper Villains and features Marlow, is his sixth from this project, and is also listed among Roach’s favorite cuts from the mixtape. The visual, filled with gorgeous girls and Roach’s confident attitude and rhymes, premieres today on MTV Hive.
“Aris wanted to do something simple and artistic,” explains Roach, “So the inspiration was based around clean shots and actual models.” The pair focused on creating a visual that captured the vibe of the track rather than literal representation of the lyrical content. “The song has a trippy laid back vibe to it with a confident message,” says Roach, “I think that the video captured that with the intense red lighting, the throwback car, and the simplicity of it.”
Roachy Balboa III, which features Iamsu!, Kreayshawn, Clyde Carson and production from Jay Ant, Nima Fadavi and more, is available for free download or streaming on Soundcloud. Roach has also just announced his Keep It Lit Tour with Husalah, which runs along the west coast starting on October 11th in his hometown of San Francisco, CA and wrapping up on November 9th in San Diego. The tour also features “Boss’d Up” partner Marlow along with Bobby Brackins, DJ Skimask, Remedy, and Pac B.
